Background
Zoe Edema is an artist, producer, and businesswoman. She is the co-director of Muralisto, a company designed and created with her brother Xander that use art, specifically murals in the urban environment, to connect with the community in which they sit. To use art as a way of engaging the local community.
This project is about activating the development site for the innovation quarter in Westmead, NSW. The collaboration is between Westmead children’s hospital and Charter hall and the aim was to engage the local community within Westmead’s children’s hospital and offer a creative outlet for the younger community to help design four artworks that will appear on the hoarding around the construction site of the new Innovation quarter that is project managed by Charter Hall.
Muralisto engaged two groups from the hospital community – one from the hospital’s school which consisted of primary school children and another group of young women aged between14 - 17 years old. The artworks are a result of these collaborative online workshops that were facilitated by Muralisto.
Muralisto philosophy is that by engaging the community in such developments it helps build a sense of belonging, ownership, place and a way for people to use expression through artworks.
