Background

Claire Nakazawa is a Blue Mountains-based artist and musician whose work is balanced, bold and distinctive. Her latest mural was commissioned by Blackheath Fitness Centre and reflects her unique style.

The Fitness Centre was closed during the global pandemic and during this period, graffiti writers extensively tagged the wall of the building. The owner decided that commissioning a mural would rejuvenate the space, mark a new beginning post-pandemic and create an opportunity to support a local artist.

Claire’s brief was open: to balance the wall with a mural that sits within the space of the Fitness  Centre – to create a synergy between the spaces.
